Have you been hurt by someone closest to you or have you hurt anyone consciously? Have you been approached by a friend or colleague confronting you about how he’s hurt by what you said and done? Either way you need to ask for forgiveness. The bible says in Mark 11:25, “And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”
What is Forgiveness?
Forgiveness is you giving up your right to get retribution against that person who has committed wrong on you and letting God take care of it or the law. Forgiveness does not mean forgetting because you don’t want to fall victim again but it simply means that you give it to God and trust His words in Romans 12:19, “… Vengeance is Mine; I will repay, says the Lord.”
To Forgive or Not to forgive?
To forgive is easier said than done. It is hard but the right choice. If you choose not to forgive, you are harming yourself. If you go and ask for forgiveness whether you hurt someone or you’ve been hurt releases you from the guilt and thereby transferring the obligation to the other person. It is nice to approach God in prayer confidently knowing that He’ll hear you because you have forgiven someone.
Reasons for Forgiveness
- Forgiveness brings healing.
- Forgiveness releases the bitterness away.
- Forgiveness restores broken relationships.
- Forgiveness frees us from Satan’s power.
- Forgiveness maintains our fellowship with God.
- Forgiveness because you have been forgiven.
- Forgiveness is a path to love.
How To forgive?
- Pray to God to give you the courage and the right words to say.
- If you hurt someone, go and ask for forgiveness.
- If you’ve been hurt, go and tell the person how you feel and that you have chosen to forgive him/her.
“Not forgiving is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.”
